Short Biograpy of Franz Grickschat
Franz Grickschat was born on 3 May 1912 in the small village Erlenfließ in the North of East Prussia and died on 19 October 2003 in Lübeck at the Baltic Sea.
Already in his younger years he was interested in drawing and sculptural work. He took part in a correspondence course for drawing and painting, followed by autodidactic self-improvement. Moreover he was working as a writer.
Because of a disability to walk properly he was not taken for military service and came by a life-saving circumstance in 1945 out of East Prussia, first to Silesia and afterwards to the Hanseatic town of Lübeck, where he found a livelihood as a modeller.
After being retired he delved again into print as well as the manufacture of ex libris, mostly lino-cuts, but as well wood cuts and gypsum cuts, a rarely used technique.
The occupation with his print works helped him over many health problems and adversities.
He was a member of the German Ex Libris Society.
